Rules for the 2016 Summer Road/Trail Race Challenge

There are 14 Races to choose from; finishing time is handicapped according to your age & gender, so everyone is in with a chance!

Minimum 5 races to count

Open to all first and second claim club members who are wearing a club vest

The winner gets to keep the beautiful Chalice Trophy for a year!!


Jacob’s Leg It 10K

From Edge Hill University – a scenic, undulating course over roads, lanes and footpaths – in aid of the National Autistic Society

Sunday 24th April

It’s a Piece of Cake 10K

At Boggart Clough Park (North Manchester). Chip timing and prizes for finishers.

Bake-off and cake sale in aid of local charity after the race.

Great Hameldon Hill Race

Starting at the base of The Coppice on the outskirts of Accrington, the Hameldon Race crosses tracks, fields and open moor before a horrendous bog and steep climb deposits the runners at the Great Hameldon trig. A fast descent (avoiding the bog!) picks up the outward route and ensures that this race is ‘eyeballs out’ all the way.

Runners must bring waterproof whole body cover to the race, in case it is needed. A decision will be made on the day on what must be carried during the race.

Blacksticks Blue 10K

Starting and finishing at Whitechapel Village Hall, this road race offers stunning views overlooking the Bowland Fells. Each finisher gets a piece of cheese!!

Grasmere Gallop 10K Trail Race

The Grasmere Gallop 10k Trail Run takes you through some of the most beautiful landscape in the country, the Vale of Grasmere and Rydal, the place that inspired the foundation of the National Trust.

Grasmere Gallop 17K Trail Race

The Grasmere Gallop 17km Trail Race takes in what is arguably some of the most beautiful landscape in the world. Loughrigg Terrace, Fell and the idyllic Loughrigg Tarn, then returning to the village via the jewels of the Lakes, Rydal Water and Grasmere.

Freckleton Half Marathon

The oldest half marathon in the UK! A popular race, which seems to be blessed with good weather most years! Flat and fast, so should be capable of giving you a PB. Entries consistently good and prize list in line with entries. Fills up so enter quickly if you want to do this one!

Race the Train (12 miles)!about2/cc6y

In partnership with East Lancashire Railway’s this race will start from Bury train station on the sound of the steam trains whistle. Runners will then set off North along trail paths running alongside the railway lines and Irwell River. The run is from point to point, starting at Bury and finishing at Rawtenstall Station.

The steam train on the sound of its whistle will travel south to the next station then change tracks, then head north catching the runners as it makes it’s way to Rawtenstall Station.

Penny Lane Striders 10K

The route has been refined in recent years to make it both flatter and faster, and the race is now fully chip timed.

Riverside 10 mile

The Prudent Riverside 10m is a popular 10mile starting and finishing at the George & Dragon pub on the newly designed and revamped Lancaster Quay.

The race is mainly run on the Lune Estuary footpath, which follows the River Lune towards Condor Green. A road section follows which includes two hills but then a generous downhill section which takes you back to the Lune Estuary footpath and a flat run for home and a drink in the George & Dragon!
